I use a handheld TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) unit called the Pointer Excel II as well as the Dolphin Neurostim, which are small electronic devices used primarily for pain management but also work to stimulate acupoints for those wary of needles. They work by delivering low-voltage electrical impulses to the body directly to the skin without the use of needles. TENS units are commonly used to alleviate various types of pain, such as muscle pain, joint pain, and certain chronic conditions.
I also use the Dolphin Neurostim for non-invasive Vagal nerve stimulation. Non-invasive VNS is applied to the auricular branch of the vagus nerve. The Vagus nerve represents 80% of our parasympathetic nervous system, strongly affecting immunity and digestion. Some of the top Vagus nerve related issues are anxiety/depression, insomnia/sleep apnea, high blood pressure and gastrointestinal problems. Stimulating the Vagus nerve may ‘reboot’ the PNS and allows for reduced body-wide inflammation.
